But, the Yankee brass themselves (Hal et al) termed it “incentives”. They said that he needed motivation. That wasn’t something that Joe interpreted. They actually called it an “incentive” and cited “motivation” as the reason.
If they said, ”…based on performance, we are offering $5 Million”…your argument would be sound.  
But it seems that the “incentive” didn’t bother [...]

Here’s a snippet from Torre’s interview on Larry King Live.  This only further cements my opinion that Torre just didn’t get it.
KING: Do you feel you were betrayed?
TORRE: No. I don’t feel I was betrayed.
KING: I mean the contract they offered you was demeaning.

I like batting A-Rod 3rd and Tex 4th.  But I would rather have Matsui in the lineup.  If healthy, he gives us 100+ RBI.  We’re not going to get that from Swisher, so I think he is the odd man out.  Put Damon in Left and bat Matsui 5th or 6th
