I’m a glass is half full type of person. I always look for the silver lining.

I watched the entire interview with Gammons. A-Rod did a good job. He seemed more at ease in this interview, more relaxed and less contrived than in many other interviews I’ve seen in the past. Granted, some of his explanations were a little convoluted. I liked my response to the Couric interview much better than the one he gave…the “I wasn’t honest with myself” crap. But then again, he claims that at the time of the interview he didn’t even know he tested positive. So, if that was his position, my response wouldn’t have held water anyway.

But, back to the silver lining.

A-Rod has spent his whole career trying to be perfect. Watching his every word to the point that he can’t even understand what he’s saying; Worrying so much about how his stance looks at the plate that he can’t possibly be comfortable,  Wondering how he should wear his uniform pants, etc. etc. etc.

Now…being perfect….is no longer an option. That self-inflicted monkey is off his back. Now, maybe…he can relax and be himself.

My hope is that he doesn’t try TOO hard to prove that he is worthy of the HOF. He needs to forget about Babe Ruth, Gherig, Aaron and all the other greats. Forget about the records.

Step up to the plate this April in the new Yankee Stadium. In those beautiful pinstripes. Listen to the fans welcoming you with cheers, boos, and jabs…..notice that your team is down by two runs…stare down at Texeira standing on second base….and launch a bomb into the center field stands in the New Yankee Stadium. Take it all in….’cause that’s what it’s about.

Don’t look up at the mountain you’re climbing, keep you eyes focused on the ground that appears level under your feet. Before you know it…

Just play the game Alex, just play the game.
