No margin for error or Planet of the Apes
by RussOk, so it’s the end of the day on Friday and I’m a little “loopy.”Â
But, with the A-Rod situation we have no margin for error in this tough division of the AL East. A-Rod accounts for conservatively 20% of the Yankee offense. He needs to rest this, rehab it and get back on the field as soon as possible. With the improvement in the pitching, the runs allowed will be down, and (fingers crossed) increased production from the following individuals: Posada, Matsui and Cano – a drop off from A-Rod production can perhaps be survived where the run differential is still large enough to win.  We still need him on the field but we’ll have to adjust our expectations from the usual A-Rod production (35-40 HRs, 120-130 RBIs) to something like 20 HRs and 90 RBIs. We still need him because I don’t know how we would even be able to find a third baseman to give us that.
Oh, and the future… if he plays now…. to heck with it. Besides, like Yogi said: “The future ain’t what it used to be.” We’ll all end up in some post -apocalyptic, planet of the apes scenario anyway.
