The only place for Jeter is left field.  However, I’m not prepared to make that judgment at this point in time.  While it is true that Jeter had a below average defensive year last season, he is a prideful player and I have to see how he does this year.  I have to believe that Jeter is determine more than ever to show that he can be the offensive player he was and the show that he can still play the position.  That said, this is something that the Yankees are inevitably going to have to confront.  Given age and the demanding aspects of the position, it is unavoidable.

Jeter can’t DH (not enough power).  He can’t go to third (A-Rod is not ready for DH full time and first base is not an option now).  2B could be a possibility but unless the Yanks trade Cano, I think he stays there.  Besides, I’m not confident that if Jeter can’t cut it at short, putting him on the other side of the double play combo is not a great idea either.  I acknowledge that his diminished range is to his left which will be covered up by Texeira’s good range down there.  But there is still alot of responsibility at second base and if you’re going to move him it can’t be for one season only to find out he can’t play there either.  I’ve heard people say he can play center.  No way.  If he is having trouble at short at age 35, CF is too big a job for him at this stage.  Part of what you’re trying to do with the move is to get Jeter to concentrate and focus on his offense.  Left field is the place assuming we have a CF who can go get the ball, because to be honest, if you don’t have that – Yankee fans know that if the dimensions of the new stadium are the same as the old, left field is no picnic with “death valley.”  He’s got to have a guy in CF who can cover the ground.  Let’s see what happens this season, we will watch his play at short intensely I’m sure.
