A-rod got flak for suggesting (indirectly) that the Yanks could use a lead-off hitter other than Damon. With Girardi’s experiment with Jeter he may get his wish.  If Jeter is aging as a player batting first will demonstrate it pretty quickly.  Is he your speedy, base stealing prototypical lead-off hitter at this point in his career. No way. It’s more the Yanks have no alternative, Damon is at the end of his ability, he’s another guy Torre hammered a bit in “The Yankeee Years”.

I read in Page Six or somwhere Jeter and his long-term (in Jeter terms) girl friend Minka Kelly of “Friday Night Lights” bought a house together in L.A.  Maybe Derek will get back to be managed by Torre some day in la-la land. Impossible? Heck, Babe Ruth finished up with the Boston Braves, you never know.
