I couldn’t even name a player from that era.
That’s why I responded with “Steve Balboni” :) Is it Claudell Washington?
You’ve definitely heard of him. (and no John, he didn’t play in the ’80s)
Was it Wally Pipp? Tha’ts the only name I know.
My guess would have been Lou Gherig, but he didn’t start playing until 1923. Looked it up and now I know that the this Yankee player lead the AL in HR in 1916 and 1917 with the impressive totals of 12 and 9 HR respectively.
