Not entirely Girardi’s fault
by RussGirardi can’t be held accountable for the fact that this team is showing its age. But…. what he can be blamed for is not being able to fix Wang. He and Eiland … this could be their biggest failure. Wang was an excellent major league pitcher. They must find a way to fix him. Girardi can tell Joba to “cool it” with his antics. The team definitely needs to straighten itself out which can happen. The pitching should be better and A-Rod should help in a couple of days by making the lineup better by protecting Tex and putting Damon back where he belongs. This team has had a parade of DHs for too long and they have continually paid the price for that. I didn’t think Swisher fell into that category, but perhaps he does. Not having a centerfielder anchor the outfield definitely hurts this team.
Torre wouldn’t be doing much better with this team. Define “much better?” 2 games? fine. maybe Torre has them 2 games better – I don’t know but there are just too many injuries to make this team more than .500. And I specifically refer to the bullpen. The Bruney injury really devastated this team. That’s why Wang is important – if Wang and Hughes pitch well, then they can consider moving Joba to the pen. That makes the team better.
