What happenned to the real Yankee fans?
by JoeI’m convinced that, on average, Yankee fans have now become as dumb as the fans around the country. The only difference is the average Yankee fan is more arrogant. Last night, A-Rod drive in the first run with a clutch single. Cheers and applause. Next time up he hits into a DP with the bases loaded and 1 out. Boos. Next time up he strikes out with a man on third. Lots of boos.
The guy came back early from a significant surgery and is not playing at full strength. He has not complained once. He wants to be in the lieup everyday. Everyone admits the lineup is longer and better since he’s back – (see Texeira). and the team has won 17 out of 21 since he’s back. And the moronic Yankee fans boo him. Yankee fans are supposed to be so knowledgeable? BS. They’re dumb. Andy Pettitte stunk it up last night. Not a single boo. It’s disgusting and embarrassing.

I agree. The fan base has changed along with franchise. A little while ago, I wrote that unfortunately the team has lost its image with the truck drivers, and other working individuals in favor of the more corporate types. The IQ for baseball has gone down as a result. Mr. Steinbrenner used to be fond of saying that his teams were ‘fighters’ because New Yorkers were ‘fighters’ – they fight the traffic, they fight on the subway, etc. I can see him in my mind after winning in 1996 in the clubhouse, soaked with champagne making that statement. I also think about the fighting spirit of those 70’s teams which he is probably fond of for that reason. This team has a little bit of that, but we need to see it against the Red Sox.
