Girardi
by John BGirardi is overmanaging and undermanaging. In some situations he is absent…and in others he is obtrusive. So yes…inconsistent.
Remember Fred Thompson’s line in “The Hunt for Red October”???? “Russians don’t take a dump, son, without a plan.” Well…that’s Girardi. Which also means that he isn’t quick on his feet. He can’t consistently make good decisions on short notice. Like…err…for example…in a tight baseball game.
Girardi strikes me as a person who sees the grain of a piece of wood….but has his face so damn close to it he doesn’t know if it’s the top of a table or the hardwood floor. He’s a details guy. He can’t see the big picture. This, my friends, is dangerous in any managerial position.
But, to be honest, I could give a rat’s ass about disrespecting the veterans. This isn’t a democracy. If I’m Girardi….I say bunt, you bunt. I say walk him…you walk him. Don’t give me any lip. Don’t look at me. Don’t smirk at me. Just follow orders.
You don’t want to talk to me in the clubhouse??? Guess what? I don’t care. Just be ready to play tomorrow.
This certainly isn’t the military…but it sure as hell ain’t the New York Mets either…where showing up the manager happens every three innings.
Great managers are hard to come by….
Say whatever you want about Joe Torre…but HIS playoff streak looks like it will remain intact this year.
