The visitor in the clubhouse

I read that George Steinbrenner was at the game in Tampa last night and visited the team and apparently they responded with a nice win for him. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to hear the exchange between Mr. Steinbrenner and Jeter. I’m sure there was probably [...]

Chump Change

I’m a bit frustrated with Carsten Charles.   The defense betrayed him a bit, but he was behind a lot of hitters and put forth another sub-par effort against a contending team.  Here’s how our ”ACE” has performed against likely playoff teams.

May 2 vs. Anaheim – 6.2 inn, 8H, 5R, 4ER, 1BB, 1K
June 6 vs. TB – 8 inn, 5 H, 5R, 4ER, 3BB, [...]

Homestand

Can’t complain about a 9-1 homestand, taking over first place, Joba seems like he’s with the program and everything else that went right since the All Star break. Things will get a little bit harder, as they head to Tampa and to the west coast for a couple of trips. I think based [...]

A few thoughts…

1.  Agreed
2.  Agreed, However the real defensive story of the year is how much Jeter’s range has improved.  I think he heard all the talk last year and did something about it.
3. I’m not worried.  I think Rivera is fine.
4.  You may be right, because I’m not sure Wang is coming back anytime soon or [...]

First place, two games

Good job by AJ.  Keep it rolling. I Didn’t think Boston would go down to Texas and get swept and Tampa lost last night too.  Boston is wheeling and dealing though.  You have to think Cashman is lying in the weeds on this…..and there might be something in the works.  I mean, right now today… because the [...]

A few thoughts…

On first place: This is a very streaky team with very streaky hitters. They can look extremely capable or unbelieveably inept from series to series. A bad series could easily send this team into a tailspin. So, I am tempering my enthusiasm until I see them beat the Red Sox.
The commentators have been gushing about [...]

You want first place, you can’t handle first place!

They are playing crisp baseball. Andy pitching better was a nice bonus too. Joe, you are right on the money about Tex too. He’s a ballplayer’s ballplayer so to speak. He plays the game correctly. As he becomes more senior in his tenure with the team, hopefully that will rub [...]

Curb my Enthusiasm

Yes, first place is nice. Problem is when the rubber meets the road we seem to be in a pattern of sweeping the opposition or getting swept and if we face the Red Sox or Angels we are the sweepees not the sweepors.  This last successful streak has seen our pitching improve, Hughes remarkably so. [...]

Walk off Ho Hum

I want to see them in first place, alone, for a few days before I start screaming from the rooftops.  That said,  that was pretty nice last night.  I liked the way Andy looked.  Texiera’s play and throw to home was spectacular.  He has earned every penny of his contract so far.  I love the [...]

Walk off Ho Hum

No comment on the roundtable? Are we so complacent these days that even a walk off “thrilla by godzilla” that puts the team into a first place tie seems routine? Are we headed towards oblivion?  Is this truly the “Deadtable?”  Is everyone watching summer re-runs?
