Great addition

In my opinion the addition of Jerry Hairston, Jr. is one of Cashman’s best acquisitions.   He is extremely versatile and has a better than average bat.  It appears that he has seamlessly fit in with the current team.  I don’t remember a similar player who looks good defensively at several positions.  He recently played centerfield [...]

Small stuff, but nice job by Cashman

Some small behind-the-scene maneuvering by Cashman has created some agita for the RedSox.  Maybe Cashman is smarter than Epstein afterall.

Understanding your players.

I was at the game last night and watched as Melky laid down an excellent bunt, in a perfect situation to do so.  Yankees were up by 2 with no one out, Melky at the plate, and Jeter on deck.  We were killing Girardi for the bunt play with Swisher (I say rightfully so), but [...]

Swisher bunt

I had no problem with Girardi calling for Swisher to sac bunt.  He may have only 7 in his career but 3 of those seven came this season, so Girardi had reason to believe that Swish could get one down.  Swisher screwed up.  Just because you get the bunt sign, doesn’t mean you had to [...]

Heartfelt, passionate, reasoning and analysis…..

Of one bunt play. I love it, that’s what makes this table Round.
On the masthead: In an existential sense, “no clever line today” may be considerered a clever line.  Very clever of you.

AGREE

Ditto for John’s and Mike T’s posts.  You never ask anyone to do something there incapable of doing.  Of course, a major league player should be able to bunt; however, it was obvious that Swisher cannot bunt.  He jabbed at a pitch at his eye level.  A potential great victory was turned to a great [...]

And another thing…

I already commented on John’s post, but I just looked something up and it made me mad, so here goes.  Nick Swisher has had a grand total of 7 sacrifice bunts in his career. SEVEN.  He doesn’t do it that often, don’t make him do it now.  Would you have A-Rod or Teixeira or Matsui bunt in that situation? No, [...]

This one’s on Girardi

Why the hell is Swisher bunting in the 9th inning when they were hitting Francisco?????? Can someone explain that to me? Just stupid overmanaging. Girardi stopped all the momentum and gift wrapped that game for the Rangers. Just plain stupid.
Girardi manages by the letter of the law. He has no “feel” for the game.
And another [...]

Wagner

I don’t blame Theo for doing this. His starting rotation is in trouble and there are no viable options available.  So, do the next best thing… beef up the bullpen.  I don’t think this does much of anything.  Wagner is 11 months out of a Surgery that usually takes 14 – 15 months from which [...]

Wagner

In terms of Wagner’s effectiveness for this year, I say marginal to somewhat-below-marginal.  I don’t think he’ll be awful, but I don’t think they will be able to rely on him either.  The interesting thing is arbitration.  Do the red sox want to chance getting stuck with him at a high price tag (especially if [...]
