To be fair, I thought Theo was a great GM.  I stand corrected.

Joe and I did discuss Cano this weekend.  He looks like a lazy player.  Joe D was also labeled as such because of his grace playing centerfield.  But Joe D did not make stupid errors or not run hard out of the box.  You think the exemplary play of Jeter would rub off on Cano.  I would sit him a game and let him know privately that the Yankees will not resign him if he displays a cavalier attitude playing second base or at the plate.

CC is a horse and it is clear why he the Yankees number 1 pitcher.  He is the asset we have not had since Cone, etc.

You have to be impressed with Matsui.  Even with his knee drained a weekly basis he has shown more power and discipline at the plate than in the prior three years.  He protects A-Rod at the plate just as A-Rod protects Mark T.  He also has adapted to the DH role, which is not as easy as it seems.  Some players want to play the field and not paying defense impacts their at bats.  It doesn’t appear that this bothers Matsui.  He hits lefties well and last night he took one of the best righties in the league downtown twice.  Regardless of other player moves to be made for 2010 I would resign him.  There is nothing negative even written about him (his language barrier helps him in this regard) and he fits the Yankees image especially with his foreign appeal.  He would be a bargain at $5 to $8 million a year for two years.  Remember the money the Yankees wasted on Pavano and Igwara.  This is a no brainier in my opinion.

I believe that A-Rod has had a more positive impact this year than any other year with the Yankees, even his monster stats years.  His last three home runs (in about 150 at bats) have been against the Red Sox.  That is what the Yankees are all about.  Home runs in big situations against the best competition.

I have often said that when Rivera retires it is all over for the Yankees.  Well, the same goes for Jeter.  We are witnessing one of the best players to even put on a uniform.  Like Mickey Mantle, whose overall stats do not depict his greatness (298 average, etc.), Jeter’s stats do not begin to demonstrate what a great players he is.  He does things that are never recorded in the box score.  Jim Rice, you are an idiot and, in retrospect, you should not be in the HOF.
