Yeah, but how’d the Dow do?
by John SThe Wall St. Journal has a daily sports page that is so random and off-beat I can’t read any of it 9 days out of 10. But today Allen Barra on the opinion page advances the theory that Jeter deserves 2009 MVP on the “Color of Money” precedent.  (Well known to Paul Newman fans, he was robbed by not getting the Oscar for “The Verdict” - that’s absolutely true, few acting robberies were worse – so he got a next year make-up Oscar.) Jeter was robbed in 1999 and 2006 so it’s his due based on a “close enough” year this year- that’s the claim.
Writer suggests a dislike of things NY may factor in for, say, Kansas City or Altanta sportswriter voting. A HA!
Also a weird sidebar same issue of paper on words per minute spoken by MLB play-by-play broadcasters. Vin Scully chattiest at 143wpm, Kay only 73 (same as Gary Cohen for Mets). I remember when Scully did 1977 and 1978 national broadcasts of NYY-Dodger World Series’ I wanted to dismember him to shut him up for a second. With that I’ll shut up.
