Adapt or Perish

I’m glad the Phils never got around to seeing the obvious. Burnett was going to throw you a first pitch fastball, and it was going to be pretty much center strike zone.  Even the second time through the lineup, Burnett was able to get ahead at will and at no risk.
The “experienced” umpires are maybe [...]

Quick note about the double play

If Ryan Howard knows he caught the ball on a fly, why does he throw the ball to second, instead of just jogging to first base to make the double play?  Answer: he knew he trapped it and wanted to get the runner at second.  Gorman makes the call too quickly without a good vantage [...]

The bottom line is victory

I can’t tell you how frustrated I was last night watching the Yankees squeeze the bats and conduct their at-bats in such an over anxious manner.
I thought Girardi managed a very good game last night.  Not only because they won, but he pinch hit in the right spot, sent Gardener in at the right time [...]

A dose of perspective

The pundits have all been hyping the value of a game 1 victory.  We’ve all heard the story: the last 6 teams to win game 1 have won the World Series, same for 11 of the last 12.   They conveniently cut that off at 12 to avoid the Yankee comeback after being down 0-2 in 1996.
So [...]

Good Omen?

Paul O’Neill is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch tonight.

Kill the Wabbit!

Yes that’s right Pedro back at the Stadium.  Joe is right, shake it off, for tonight we face that wascally wabbit, Pedro Martinez.  Get to him early, and get into that bullpen.  I have the lineup below.  No panic, but someone else has to get a chance to swing the bat, that’s all.  And, CC [...]

The Fate of the Yankee Universe

Rests in the hands of A.J. Burnett.

Help us Ay Jay Burn Ette.  You’re our only hope.
The key will be the first two innings.  A.J. absolutely must keep the Phillies off of the board to give these guys the chance to relax and get to Pedro.  That’s going to fall on Jeter and A-Rod, the only Yankee regulars [...]

I agree

One game, put it behind you.  Except….that’s not easy. The Phils were World Champs last year – without Cliff Lee. I thought the strike zone last night was fair and accurate – a hitter’s zone. If Lee has a umpire back there last night with a wider strike zone the s.o.b. had a plausible chance [...]

Shake it off

No one, no team was going to beat Lee last night.  That was the best pitching performance I’ve seen all year.  The guy was masterful.  Ok, it’s only one game.  Tonight the boys have to put a hurtin’ on Pedro.  Don’t look for home runs; just singles and lots of them.   I want to see [...]
