I had a feeling about the club headed into the playoffs which I think I wrote about 2 weeks ago around the time of the last regular season game.

1) Andy was terrific last night.  He altered his pitching a little as I saw more four seam fastballs elevated in the zone.  Usually to be effective, Andy pitches down in the zone.  Nice.

2) What a nice play by Derek Jeter in the 8th with a one run lead.  That is fundamental recognition of the game situation.  I have no real play at first, we have a one run lead and there was a runner on second.  Posada’s throw to A-Rod turns the play from a fundamentally sound and cautionary play to a spectacular one.  His throw was perfect.

3) Posada.  Clutch go-ahead HR last night.  Enough said.  I like it.

4) And of course, in this era of Yankee baseball who else would you have on the mound to close it out?  Mariano.

How could I forget A-Rod?  Technically not part of the “old guard” but the most important HRs are being hit by him.  What a clutch HR.   He’s in the zone and hopefully it’s not going to stop anytime soon because our old nemesis, the Angels are up next and we’ll need top performances from all concerned to beat those guys.
