Our last hope
by John SMaureen Dowd in the Times did her most recent column taking Tiger Woods and the White House social secretary (re: the gatecrashers) behind the woodshed for an old fashioned verbal beating about not coming clean even after the game is up. She ended the column with, “Now all we have left is Derek Jeter.”Â
That was exactly what my wife told me before the column was published - I’m sure others of us thought it?

Actually, my thought about Derek Jeter was that he is the only one who knows how to handle all of this. Jeter made the conscious decision to live the bachelor lifestyle. He dates supermodels and actresses left and right and everyone loves it. Why? Because he’s single and there is nothing wrong with an eliglble bachelor dating. Years ago, he made it clear that he has no intention of settling down and that gave him carte blanche to date whomever he wants. And he takes the gentlemen’s “No comment” approach when it comes to who he dates. As a result, even though he is dating the Maxim 100, he is a boring story. No controversy. He is also able to parlay that image to his benefit (remember the Amex commercial with him in the boss’ office wearing the Tux saying that he didn’t party too much). The only other guys in this category are guys who stay single – like Clooney, John Mayer, Leonardo DiCapiro. Those guys date who they want, when they want and if they are spotted with someone else. So what. They’re not married.
