The Granderson trade looks like it is a done deal.  Here’s what the teams get:

  • Yankees – Curtis Granderson (DET)
  • Detroit – Max Scherzer (AZ), Daniel Schlereth (AZ), Austin Jackson (NY) and Phil Coke (NY)
  • Arizona – Edwin Jackson (DET) and Ian Kennedy (DET)

Huge deal by Cashman here.  Granderson is under contract for 4 more years $5.5M in 2010, $8.25M in 2011, $10M in 2012 and a $13M option (or $2M buyout) in 2013.  He’s a big defensive upgrade from Melky Cabrera and will absolutely rake in the New Yankee Stadium (he hit 30 HR last year, only 10 at the cavernous Comerica).

This basically removes all the leverage from Boras on the Damon negotiations.  The Yanks can basically tell Damon you get 1 year $8M, see if you can do better.
