The Rangers have apparently nixed the Mike Lowell deal due to the fact that Lowell has a torn ligament in his thumb.  If the Sox can’t move Lowell then they can’t get Beltre, because there’s nowhere for him to play (they can’t move Youkilis back to 3rd).  Thank you Texas for conducting an in-depth medical review and coming to your senses.  (i.e. realizing that Lowell doesn’t help you win the West,  while trading for him would allow Boston to improve and simultaneously decrease your chance of winning the wild card.)
