Chess, checkers….  If the 2 for 20 mill is true, that’s exactly what Damon should get.  He is not a $13 mill per year player, his defense doesn’t justify that and he’s not an all world offensive performer.  He’s very good, but not good enough to be compensated on the level he’s used to.   I’m ok with the idea of moving on from Matsui.  I thought Damon was more essential for the lineup.  As it stands, Nick is an adequate replacement but we’re losing in power and baserunning.  Nick actually offers a better OBP than Damon which is why Girardi flipped him and Jeter in the first place.

Good thought on Justin…  he’s still young and could prove to be boost for a number of years.  There was a rumor that the Yankees were exploring a deal with the Cubs for Zambrano.  Apparently they like Melky although it will take more than that to acquire him.
