Brian Cashman must know that I like Yankee Championships for my birthday, because he just got me another great starting pitcher!   Yankees have apparently traded Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn, and Arodys Vizcaino to Atlanta for Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan.  That give the Yankees an incredibly deep strike out machine rotation.

  1. C.C. Sabathia (LHP) 230 Inn, 3.37ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 197K, 7.70 K/9
  2. Javier Vazquez (RHP) 219.1 Inn, 2.87 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 238 K, 9.76 K/9
  3. A.J. Burnet (RHP) 207 Inn, 4.04 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 195 K, 8.48 K/9
  4. Andy Pettitte (LHP) 194.2 Inn, 4.16 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 148 K, 6.84 K/9
  5. Joba Chamberlain (RHP) 156 Inn, 4.78 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 132 K, 7.62 K/9

Vazquez is only 33 years old and has one year left on his deal.  Meaning the Yankees can etiher resign him next year or let him go and get draft picks while they groom their next starter Hughes for the rotation.  Some are saying this means Joba is going to the Pen to be groomed as the heir apparent to Mo.  But I think he’s in the rotation and Hughes builds up innings to be a starter in 2011.
