A big “WHATEVER” goes out to the Big Mac.

He wanted to come clean.  PUUUULEASE…..   I can’t take these guys anymore.  He could have come clean at any point.  Actually, the most self-less time to come clean was when the whole country was watching you testify before Congress!  Then, you could have told the nation’s youth not to take steroids.  Hey, that would have been novel.  But, instead you waited until you wanted to come back to baseball because MLB would not let you back in uniform and on the field unless he came clean and got this out.  Whatever his m0tivation, it was for selfish reasons.   And, although I believe he essentially traded the right to come back to baseball for a shot at the Hall of Fame, I applaud telling the truth now (just as the Commissioner has) as a way of encouraging others to come forward and tell the truth.  Even though he is telling the truth… no Hall of Fame for this guy.  By the way, of course Big Mac is not going to admit to Canseco’s story of the two of them injecting themselves in the locker room because MLB would never let him near a clubhouse again if he admitted to that.

And that brings me back to my position on the HOF for all of these guys.  No Hall of Fame.   I understand that there may be guys in the HOF now that may have done steroids, but there is no reason to compound the problem by putting more steroid users in the Hall.  We will have to live with the ones that got in, knowing that if it’s revealed later on, the fans will know which ones used and the others.  It is impossible to know how much it helped a player in enhancing their performance, and because that cannot be calculated, I would err on the side of not allowing any of them in.   I might be fairly certain that Bonds might have gotten in …. but I still cannot calculate when he started and how much it helped him.. therfore, no HOF.

The records are the more difficult issue.   Expunge the records, brings problems and fairness issues.  But then again, how fairly has Maris been treated all these years?   Maybe there should be a “correction” or “adjustment” to the records.  I mean Maris has essentially held the record legitimately now for almost 50 years!
