Bad advice
by JoeScott Boras’ ego is writing checks that Johnny Damon can’t cash. Looks like the Yankees offer is now 1 year for $2 million. At most he might get $5 million from the A’s… maybe. He had 2 years and $14 million from the Yankees in his pocket. Nice going Scott.

The A’s are apparently off the table. Damon was supposedly the “Plan B” if the A’s didn’t sign Ben Sheets, which apparently they did. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/
By the way, if I were Damon, I’d be hugely pissed off.
The Yankees have been in a different mindset since Cashman has been given the reigns (excluding the A-Rod deal). They have spent where they need to spend, but have been tighter with the purse strings. Plus, the last two offseasons have demonstrated that more and more teams are using advanced metrics to detemine “value”.
There was no way the Yankees (or anyone else for that matter) was going to pay Damon $10M per year. Not when Abreu (arguably better offensively and possibly even defensively – at least with his arm) was paid $5M last year and received a 2 year $19 M deal.
Who else was going to pay that amount when guys like Bay and Holliday were on the market and the Yankees already upgraded with the Granderson trade? Dumb move by Boras.
For every player that Boras helps to secure a big paycheck, he hurts 5 others…
