It’s the sum of the parts.

Prediction:  By June the centerfielder will be Brett Gardner and the LF will be Curtis Granderson.  Winn is the 4th outfielder and is there to be the defensive substitution for Swisher.

Look at it this way

Last year we had Melky, this year – Wynn.  Discount age, since Wynn is signed for only one year.  There is not much difference between the two.  Wynn will steal more bases and will probably have a better OBP. Defense is probably equal.  Edge: Even
Last year we had Damon, this year – Granderson.  Big upgrade [...]

You get what you pay for

Don’t misunderstand this post – the Yankees have had a good off-season.  The rotation is arguably better and Granderson, assuming he plays center field is an upgrade over Melky and Gardener.  However, Granderson has to play CF for this to work.
