Well Russ’s comment to my post shows how fantastic it is to be a roundtabler.  He’s already worried that we need Nick Johnson to get a hit off of Papelbon in the 9th (as if Boston will be leading in the 9th inning in any game against the Yankees in 2010) or that Randy Winn will need to steal a base off of K-Rod (as if the Mets even score a run off of the Yankees this year).  Is the offense better without Johnny Damon in the 2 hole?  No.  But since when do we think that Johnny Damon was either a) the key to the Yankees winning the World Series or b) such a Yankee legend that he couldn’t take less when he got older and his skills were on the decline.  Remember, when Bernie William’s career was winding down, he had to tak $1.5 Million to come back to the Yankees, and the following year was offered a minor league deal and turned it down.  Sometimes your time is up.  Sometimes, the boss knows what you are worth.  For Damon that time was now.
