Are we making up for last year?

… with all these injuries?  The bottom half of the lineup is pretty weak.  They’ve been getting by, but that good fortune may be running out.
We need another big game from Andy tonight.  Five games back would not be fun.

The ninth inning

Great comeback, even better as it was off Papelbon. My younger daughter was at the game – but left at the top of the ninth. But if truth be told she is only a borderline baseball fan to begin with. If her brother or sister left and missed the bottom of  that ninth inning they [...]

How did it go down?

[Phone rings, Cashman places turkey sandwich on plate, wipes mouth with pinstriped linen napkin, licks lips, looks at Hal Steinbrenner sitting across from him, picks up phone]
Cashman: Hello?
Dr. Choknech: Hello, Brian. It’s Doctor Choknech, Nick Johnson’s wrist specialist.
[Cashman locks eyes with Hal]
Cashman: Oh, yes. Dr. Choknech. I’ve been awaiting your call. What’s your diagnosis? Will my designated [...]

I don’t like how the team is being run, but I can’t say a thing

Bringing in Mo yesterday was stupid.  Not an important enough game to bring him in.  Joba made the mess, let Joba clean it up.  Mo shouldn’t be brought in the 8th inning until it’s really important.
I don’t like skipping Vasquez.  What kind of message does that send?  Why did you trade for him?  He’s been [...]

Vasquez

Francesa is making a big deal about Girardi skipping another turn for Vasquez so he can pitch to the Mets.   His argument is that it’s only May and Girardi is messing with Javi’s confidence.  I don’t think its a big deal.  Javi, just pitch well every time you’re asked to, no matter when it is.  [...]

When I’m watching the game..

When I’m watching the game…I want to watch the game. Not stare at rappers in the booth pointlessly blabbing with Michael Kay and Ken Singleton as they ask forced questions. Especially given that one guy that conveniently inserted himself as the Yanks were about to win the 2010 World Series championship and claimed in a song that he [...]

It’s a shame

Vazquez pitches a good game today (7 innings, 2 runs, 7 Ks), but he still gets the loss.  The offense let him down.  Pena killed them in big situations today.  Anyway, one well-pitched game means nothing unless he follows it up with another.  Tough task for Javy on Sunday against the Twins’ big bats in [...]

Madden book

Yes, a good Father’s day gift – hint hint.
I read the excerpt on the1978  Old Timer’s day re-introduction of Martin as the next manager  embarrassing Al Rosen and Bob Lemon.  Well written and has all the details that never really came out.  This should be on every Roundtablers must read list.

Got to read the Madden book

OMG! What a Father’s Day gift!
Anyway, right up my alley.  I love these stories of George, Billy and Reggie as well as the supporting cast of characters.  Apparently, Rosen and Billy hated each other from their Pacific Coast League days.  Who says hockey players are the only ones who hold grudges?  What a tale of [...]

Roundtable Book Club

Bill Madden of the Daily News was on Imus this a.m. shilling his new bio on Steinbrenner. Some good stuff.
George made Al Rosen, then GM who had just hired Bob Lemon in 1978 to replace the fired Billy Martin, wear his playing days Indians uniform down on the field for Old Timers day, not telling [...]
