Mariano

Long preview article on him on nytimes.com today, it’s a preview of next Sunday Times magazine’s story - but the preview is the entire article I believe.

Over-think and Under-deliver

Girardi and Cashman are classic over-thinkers. Hughes has finally lived-up to the hype of 5 years ago, has 10 wins, has great rhythm….he’s even been able to salvage a good outing on a day when he doesn’t have his best stuff….
..so…in light of all that…
…let’s make a change…
…let’s skip a start and throw everything off…
Obviously, Girardi and [...]

In other news.

What the heck is wrong with Burnett?  Of the 8 losses the Yankees have since May 29, Burnett took the loss in 5 of them.  He’s got an 11.35 ERA in June, gave up 6 or more runs in 4 of the 5 starts, and gave up 4 in the other start.   His last three [...]

Way to pick up Andy

Very nice job by the Yankees last night, turning a frustrating game into the best win of the season.  Great job by the bull pen (except Joba- who can’t hold a guy on first if his life depended on it).  Alex had a great game and seems to have turned the corner.  Cano = STUD!  [...]

88.8888% doesn’t cut it, but Miller cuts Morgan.

Watched 8 of 9 innings last night (realize it went to extra). They kept saying the Dodgers bullpen was awful, I should have hung in there.
Did you hear Miller correct Morgan when he referred to the California Angels?  “Today we call them the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim”   ABSOLUTE AND TOTAL SILENCE FROM MORGAN. Best [...]

Mr. Torre

This is one of those series you kind of circle at the beginning of the year.  Should be fun.  Hopefully Joe, will help us out and make some of those bullpen mistakes he used to make from about 2004-2007.
Should be a fun weekend.
Oh, I had heard on Girardi’s report on WFAN, that A.J.’s grandfather is [...]

Derek “Grounded Softly to Short” Jeter

I think Jeter should just change his middle name to “Grounded to short.”  It would make things a lot easier for the announcers.
Just to recap:

Walk in the 1st
Soft Grounder to third (FC Vazquez out at 2nd) in the 3rd
Soft Gounder to SS in 4th
Soft Grounder to SS (Double Play) in 6th
Walk in the 9th
Soft Grounder [...]

Confession

I gave no effort to following the game last night, only accidentally heard they won on the radio this a.m. but the announcer didn’t give the score so I  still don’t know what it was or if we moved up or down in the standings.
Reason – yesterday and the next three Tuesdays are dominated by [...]

Hey A.J…

When I asked for consistency, I didn’t mean consistently bad.

Roundtable Day

Thanks to John S. (and Chris) for hosting another “un”successful Roundtable get-together.  Our record on these occasions is pretty lousy, but the food, drink and company are always great.
I spent a great Father’s Day at the stadium and watched CC befuddle the Mets bats, Jeter hobble around and Tex pretend it was 2009.  Also, I [...]
