Thanks Joe.
by Mike TGirardi managed the All Star game about as well as Torre did in the Milwaukee debaucle that led to the stupid winner gets home field advantage rule.
Price was cruising. Could have gone another inning. Pettitte was cruising, could have gone another inning. Lee was cruising, could have gone another inning. Right there you would have had 6 or 7 innings from three top pitchers AND still have Verlander Hughes and Lester for the final 3 innings (plus Thorton, Bailey et al). Here’s the thing. Without Rivera, the strength in pitchin this year was with Price, Pettitte, Lee, Lester, and Verlander. Those guys alone could easily have pitched 9 innings without giving up a run.
Then Girardi takes out the following players.. Ichiro (.326 AVG), M. Cabrera (.346 AVG), J. Hamiton (.346 AVG), Mauer (reigning batting champ) and Cano (.336 AVG). You want to win, you leave those guys in.
Oh and why do you add A-Rod to the roster and not use him? Oh its because you used up all your position players so Ortiz has no one to pinch run for him and you cant pinch hit A-Rod for Buck because then you would have no catcher.
Thanks for costing the Yankees (if they make the WS) a 5-10% advantage.

I’ll take the loss poorly managed as it was as long as Jeter was able to barely avoid some high and tight fastballs in that terrible sun field. Close. Young NL pitchers nervous, or REALLY tired of having lost the All-Star game since 1996? Oh and the guy Girardi should have left out was Phil Hughes!
Also– Some of those interminable feel good public service spots – PR for Selig’s budget, hair rug, and ego. Shut up and play ball.
