Maybe he's hoping other teams will fear the bunt just by him saying he might bunt... but he never really intends to.

Isn't that like Eli Manning saying the Giants haven't run screen passes all year, but are loading the playlist up with them for the Super Bowl?
Just do it, don't announce it - at least the first bunt would have been a complete surprise.

I guess Kobe gave A-Rod his recommendation about knee procedures after he advised him on the value of pre-nups in California.
Or the risks of forcing unwanted sexual advances on women in hotel rooms.
A "Dumb and Dumber" remake by those two would be a documentary, not a fictional comedy.

I contend mantle was the greatest player in baseball for a decade and a half ....1951 thru 1964. listed below are some of the talents & accomplishmebts that mays cannot lay claim to!

(1) mantle was a great bunter....mays was not.

(2) mantle had world class speed...most agreed he was rhe fastest man in baseball.

(3) he could hit the ball further than any man who ever lived .....even old timers agreed that ruth or jimmy fox did not possess his prodigious power!

(4) he was a switch hitter ...mays was not.

(5) he was a money player, he still holds the record for walk off homers.

(6) in mantles first 6500 ab (1951_1964 ) his rbis, home runs, walks, slugging %, were greater than any of his contempories including aaron or mays. ( as casey would say YOU CAN LOOK IT UP)!

(7) he led his team to 12 world series appearances.

(8) he won the major triple crown in 1956 ... not just american league....this feat has not been accomplished since.

(9) mantle still holds the record for the longest home run ever.

10) mantle holds most offensive world series records.

(11) mantle won 3 league mvps....mays had 2.

(12) even with mantles bone disease, 18 major injuries, 16 surgeries contributing to poor offensive numbers his last 4 years ....his lifetime home runs, & rbi per ab are better than mays.

(13) mantle was the unquestioned team leader of the yankee dynasty .....any giants player of that era will tell you willie mc covey was the giants team leader in the dugout & on the field.

(14) in their home run derby matchup mantle overcame a 8-2 deficit to defeat mays!

(15) even with abbreviated seasons due to injuries mantle led the A.L.in offensive categories 146 times in the 14 year period (1951-1964) mays is listed as only leading120 categories in 22 seasons! you can look it up!!
(16) from 55-64 mantle led all of basedall in runs created,ob %, walks slugging%, and total offensive categoried led!!
.in summation, for a decade & a half playing on 2 bad legs MANTLE WAS THE GREATEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL!! TOM TRESH IS QUOTED AS SAYING " when mickey was in the lineup, we felt we were the best team regardless of who was in the other dugout.....HE MADE US ALL MORE CONFIDENT & BETTER PLAYERS!!

the yankee players loved the "MICK' not only because of his talent but because of his willingness to contribute even though he played in pain (he spent 4 hours each day in the whirlpool & being taped ) just to be in the lineup! PROOF OF THIS IS THAT NO LESS THAN 13 TEAM MATES NAMED THEIR KIDS "MICKEY". the true tast of any champion is leadership & production that results in championships ......the championships say "MANTLE".....AND SO DO I.

Not sure. Texas has an incredible lineup but their pitching scares nobody. However, trying to steal (or hit and run) with Pujols at bat is probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen in a baseball game. Then again, that's not to excuse the Yankees from doing anything dumb they are certainly guilty of that. This WS has been somewhat enjoyable however the one blow out game sort of took something out of it. It's going to be tough now for St. Louis, they lost a game that Carpenter started..... I think they needed to win that game to have a shot. Still, I will be rooting for a game 7 because those are always fun.

St. Louis having home field is a separate issue. I'm starting to really come around to the idea that home field should be tied to the overall League records on interleague play. I think this creates interest in the interleague schedule, and could make for some interesting series as interleague play concludes. Say, for instance, the records are close heading into that final weekend of play.... an otherwise boring matchup of KC vs. San Diego might determine home field advantage in the WS! I think fans in that city where the game will be played will be juiced and the national media will pay close attention. The nice thing is.... you create a different situation every season. Could be fun!

Mike, you may or not be bitter, but you are perceptive. I don't think we would have matched up well with either of these teams.
It will be interesting if Washington outmanages LaRussa by intentionally walking him to death while Tony does the old "can you hear me now?" cell phone commercial with his bullpen.

Yes, my son is living in Philly, as a NYY fan he didn't think he could take another playoff round of Phillies fans' insanity. Now the locals will have to root for the Eagles! (good luck with that, Nightmare team not Dream team).
